After I wrote my Varsity response, I realized why I continued to step in - and you're right. It was the only place open 24 hours. Scientists say that the sense of smell has the longest memory; the Varsity definitely proves this theory; who could ever forget the "aroma."

I had the extreme pleasure of dining at the Varsity on Sunday, April 13th! I was in Atlanta with some gals, and one had never eaten there! Well, it was chili dogs and onion rings for everybody! (It had been a least 25 years since I had been to the Varsity, and funny, I didn't think the dogs were all that great---the rings were pretty good. Strange how your memory fades over the years.)

One gal was traveling to Mexico later that week, and got 2 pimento cheese hamburgers to take to her son. Guess I'm not the only one to import favorite foods.

Barb,

Ah, the rancid smell of the Athens Varsity....undoubtedly it came from the cooking oil which they changed once a month, whether they needed to or not. While I didn't eat there often (and still have the scars to prove it) I did like the colorful way they used to call out the orders to the short order cook. My favorite bit of slang was a "naked dog walkin' through the garden" which I believe was a slaw dog. They had a clever shorthand name for everything, but that's all I can remember now. (They say that memory is the second thing to go.)

Debbie, Don and the Rickster, George here... I am from a different gene pool, but do remember those two well. And chlorine isn't gonna help one bit. At my age... its here to stay. And since I "am" an only child... it goes when I go.

But as a result of the wit the Burns Bros. have established @Baker, I have dedicated a special folder to file their comments. After all... it shouldn't go in just a regular @Baker folder.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the gender segregation issue in regard to the downtown Athens Varsity. When I began school at the University of Georgia, women were traditionally excluded from entering the all-male premises of the Varsity across from the arch. Roy, et. all,

The North Avenue Varsity has undergone some changes probably due to the

Olympics. No longer do you have one or two guys at the head of the order line yelling "Whadayahave" nor is the conveyor belt still used to shuttle the order down to the pick up point. It's all like McDonalds (sic) now with multiple cash registers. Why they even have a gift shop where they used to have the french fry machine and onion ring makers. You can order combo's by the number also. Ain't like the old days where you had to have your act

together or risk starvation - especially before each Tech game where tempers were short.

I remember when the head "barker" retired after 20-30 years on the job.

He had a big write up in the AJC. I also remember my first trip - via

Ms. Mullins (Pat's mom).

I wonder if anyone has done a study on the amount of saturated fat in an

order of 2 dogs walking through the garden, 1 order of rings and an FO.

I vividly remember my first trip to the Varisity in 1957. My uncle had a brand new '57 Ford Impala with the huge wing fins. In those days, the order takers met you in the parking lot and sat on the hood of your car as you drove to your spot. They then jumped off and ran to get your order from the conveyer belt. Those order takers had a heck of a time sitting on the wing fins which my uncle thought was hilarious!

Anybody have any info regarding hotels or condos in Panama City. Must be beachfront. Are there any really neat places to stay like the Ramada in Destin that had the Big Pool with a Waterfall and a BAR AT POOLSIDE???? Anybody remember that place?

Meanwhile, about this Varsity thing and the weiners and all that... hmmmmm.... and the smells... and the grease... and Dinglewood... and Krystals... and Top Hat (well, you have to admit, those Top Hat chicken sandwiches were ((are?)) in a class of their own!) there certainly seems to be a Southern Obsession with FOOD!

I notice that nobody talks about GOOD BEER or FINE COFFEE!!! Folks, get with the program. Food can happen anywhere... sometimes even at home! But a multitude of Good Microbrews and Fine Coffees, well, that's a whole 'nother story.

Hey Steve!

I remember a Ramada like that, but the one I'm thinking of is in Ft. Walton, not Destin. (At least it used to be in Ft. Walton, after the hurricane, no telling where it might be.)

The Thompkins' clan has always enjoyed the Dunes of Panama. Teresa and her young 'uns just stayed at a new place called (I think) the Landmark. They go down to the beach several times a year and have stayed just about everywhere. She could give you more info.

And you know, when you're laying on the beach, there's really nothing better than a lukewarm PBR, talk about a fine brewski!

And we're really uptown here in Charlotte---just got a Starbuck's Coffee Bar at the Harris Teeter (grocery store). Life is good.

Seriously, Steve, Charlotte has a local micro-brewery called "South End Brewery". Their concoctions are sold also at various grocery stores around town. Three varieties of beers are: Carolina Blonde, Scarlet Ale, and Chocolate Ale.

Well, always being the adventurous sort, I decided to try the Carolina Blonde (since that is a good description of me <g>). Actually, there was only one 6-pack left in the cooler, and tons of the other---so I figured that must be the most popular one!

And this stuff is not cheap---$5.99 a 6-pack----and quite frankly, it was rather ordinary tasting to me! I think I enjoyed those Carling's we used to buy at the 7-11 at Ft. Benning for 95 cents a 6-pack a lot better. (They may not have even been that much!)

So, the rest of the Carolina Blondes were used to make chili, spaghetti sauce, and soup. Decided that an ice-cold Corona with a big wedge of lime suits me just fine!

Spent some time in Shiner, Texas out in the middle of frigging nowhere! Interesting beer (of course, I was given all I could drink, but I refused the offer for fear of driving my client out of business...) I don't think you'd consider the Shiner brewery a micro-brewery, though. I remember being able to buy beer with the phony id's we made in high school. I also remember one of my teachers confiscating mine. But I was proud of that piece of artwork....

Bobby Murrey is still in Columbus and owns a music shop. He is still playing the sax and occasionally jams with a few local bands. I'll get word to hin about the Atlanta bash and see if he can come up with a "combo".

Wasn't the drummer Ken Odem (?) who lived in Benning Hills, on Collins Dr. They were just up the hill from my house on Robert E. Lee and I remember driving past this house and listening to them jam in the garage... until the neighbors had enough.

I remember them playing at several Battle of the Bands at the Municipal Auditorium.

Subject: Why Does Posting To Lions-L Take Time?

Posts to Lions-L go the the @Baker server, and how long that takes is variable depending on your own system, but should take only a few seconds to a few minutes. *Then* the Majordomo mailing list program makes a copy of the message for each of the almost 200 subscribers and starts sending them out, one at a time. If all goes well, this takes just a few minutes. If the mail servers of any of the *recipients* is running slowly, it may take tens of minutes or even longer.

The delay could also be at your own ISP. If your mail server is too busy to handle Yet Another incoming e-mail, it is supposed to refuse the connection from the sender, in this case @Baker. That frees the sender to go on with the other deliveries and try the refused connection later. In our case, "later" means thirty minutes... and we try *every* thirty minutes for five days before giving up entirely.

Just for grins, I traced your message through the logs. It arrived at the @Baker server at 13:56:27. The first outgoing message went out at 13:56:41. The copy that was sent to you went out at 14:01:04. The last "first try" copy went out at 14:03:33, about seven minutes after the message came in. At 14:30:12, the server tried again to send copies that weren't accepted the first time. One was delivered and another was deferred to be tried again at about 15:00.

As complicated as some of this stuff is, it's a miracle it works at all. <grin> --Bob '65

Brat Barracks was an old World War II building where teenagers (military dependents at Fort Benning) went to socialize, dance, make out, and have fun. It was overseen by a lady named Ma Fraker and she treated everyone as if they were her own kids. Boy, did we toe the line when she was around!! She even braved the wilds and took a bus load of teens to Panama City one Spring Break -- and by the way, she was the ONLY person my mom would ever have considered letting me go with!

I can give you a better idea if you let me know how old your children are...there are definitely some good places that teenagers would enjoy if mom and dad can stand it. I guess that is definitely showing our age. Anyway, I'll be looking for your reply. By the way...how are things with you???

Sunshine,

Yes, in deedy! He made us an offer we couldn't refuse, so we'll take delivery this week-end. It's crazy how this happened. My dad (you know him too)went down to look at used (excuse me, pre-owned) inventory for us and Bobby was the contact. Dad and Bobby's dad were in the same unit on post. We decided on leasing and Bobby was helping me with an Atlanta deal by offering advice (he was the one telling me to stay in Atlanta to do the deal). Anyway, he didn't like the way the folks here were being, so he happened to have the very car we wanted in his showroom. My dad has seen this car and we've never laid eyes on it - - in fact, Dad had made the comment to Bobby that he bet Jim would love that particular car from their first talk. Isn't this a crazy way to do business?

Bobby is a hoot and is doing pretty well for a "Baker bum". To have him for a roommate must have been anything but dull. I invited him and wife Beth to our "gathering".

This Baker connection is something else.

Anyway, check out this car when you come up in June. It does everything except drive itself!!!

Love to you all,

Subject: Ma Fraker

Ma Fraker was wild about wrestling. She would take Charlie Ledebuhr, Hank Kiersey, and me with her to the Auditorium to see it live. Treated us to dinner (demanded that they serve us beer) and ringside seats. She would get so involved inthe action that we feared she would join the action in the ring. She once helped decide a match by inserting a hat pin in the buttocks of a particularly distasteful opponent.

On one of the Spring Break excursions to Destin, she looked the other way at our carousing until the last day when she "discovered" the massive pile of empty beer cans in the kitchen.

She was extremely tolerant our experimentation with alcohol. Never let on that she knew we were guzzling Boone's Farm Apple Wine or Bacardi Rum and Coke in the parking lot before a dance.

Charlie Ledebuhr, I hope you don't plan to run for public office because I still remember the things we did. At least, I think I remember.

A rather inhibited engineer finally splurged on a luxury cruise to the Caribbean. It was the "craziest" thing he had ever done in his life. Just as he was beginning to enjoy himself, a hurricane roared upon the huge ship, capsizing it like a child's toy. Somehow the engineer, desperately hanging on to a life preserver, managed to wash ashore on a secluded island. Outside of beautiful scenery, a spring-fed pool, bananas and coconuts, there was little else. He lost all hope and for hours on end, sat under same palm tree.

One day, after several months had passed, a gorgeous woman in a small rowboat appeared. "I'm from the other side of the island," she said. "Were you on the cruise ship, too?" "Yes, I was, " he answered. "But where did you get that rowboat?" "Well, I whittled the oars from gum tree branches, wove the reinforced gunnel from palm branches, and made the keel and stern from a Eucalyptus tree." "But, what did you use for tools?" asked the man. "There was a very unusual strata of alluvial rock exposed on the south side of the island. I discovered that if I fired it to a certain temperature in my kiln, it melted into forgeable ductile iron. Anyhow, that's how I got the tools.

But, enough of that," she said. "Where have you been living all this time? I don't see any shelter." "To be honest, I've just been sleeping on the beach," he said. "Would you like to come to my place?" the woman asked. The engineer nodded dumbly. She expertly rowed them around to her side of the island, and tied up the boat with a handsome strand of hand-woven hemp topped with a neat back splice. They walked up a winding stone walk she had laid and around a Palm tree. There stood an exquisite bungalow painted in blue and white. "It's not much, but I call it home." Inside, she said, "Sit down please; would you like to have a drink?" "No, thanks," said the man. "One more coconut juice and I'll throw up!" "It won't be coconut juice," the woman replied. "I have a crude still out back, so we can have authentic Pina Coladas." Trying to hide his amazement, the man accepted the drink, and they sat down on her couch to talk. After they had exchanged stories, the woman asked, "Tell me, have you always had a beard?" "No," the man replied, "I was clean shaven all of my life until I ended up on this island." "Well if you'd like to shave, there's a razor upstairs in the bathroom cabinet."

The man, no longer questioning anything, went upstairs to the bathroom and shaved with an intricate bone-and-shell device honed razor sharp. Next he showered -- not even attempting to fathom a guess as to how she managed to get warm water into the bathroom -- and went back downstairs. He couldn't help but admire the masterfully carved banister as he walked. "You look great," said the woman. "I think I'll go up and slip into something more comfortable."

As she did, the man continued to sip his Pina Colada. After a short time, the woman, smelling faintly of gardenias, returned wearing a revealing gown fashioned out of pounded palm fronds. "Tell me," she asked, "we've both been out here for a very long time with no companionship. You know what I mean. Have you been lonely...is there anything that you really, really miss? Something that all men and woman need? Something that would be really nice to have right now!" "Yes there is!" the man replied, shucking off his shyness. "There is something I've wanted to do for so long. But on this island all alone, it was just...well, it was impossible." "Well, it's not impossible, any more," the woman said.

The man, practically panting in excitement, said breathlessly: "You mean you actually figured out some way we can check our e-mail here?"

Thanks, Pam. The book is CrossTalk: Communicating in a Multicultural Workplace (Prentice Hall, '97). My co-author and I explain how anyone can learn to communicate more effectively with people who have roots in cultures different from their own.

I'm ashamed to say that I was actually interviewed live on WRBL-TV's (NBC) noon show (with Teresa Whitaker) on Wednesday, but I was so nervous about it, I didn't tell any of you!!! Actually, the interview went well, so now I'm kicking myself for being such a wus!

We've had a busy month promoting the book. CNN interviewed me for "Business Travel and Beyond," which will air either the end of this month or the beginning of June. I'll let you know as soon as I find out. My co-author and I were interviewed on WMAZ-TV in Macon for their noon, "Date with Del" show. The interview will air on June 30th, for those in the Macon area.

Of course, I'm not the only author among the @Baker group, but maybe I'm the only one writing business books. Anybody writing steamy romance and adventure novels out there???

The campus has changed dramatically since Bob and I used to travel to Atlanta for the Barkley Forum. Remember those wonderful debates, Bob? Our resolution had something to do with nuclear weapons. Do you remember it? I would never have chosen to be on the debate team. The whole process terrified me. However, Dr. Kirby "forced" many of us to take risks and use our intellect. I'll always be grateful for the academic standards he established at Baker.

Well, I was before even you. But we had a hangout, too. It was called "Teen Tavern," and was located in a converted warehouse on 10th avenue just east of the railroad underpass. Surprisingly, for an "approved" hangout, it was really very popular. And it was frequented by kids from all the high schools in the Bi-City area, especially during the summer months when there was little else to do but hang out somewhere and try to stay cool.

During the summer, we even produced an annual musical. It was directed by the drama/music teacher from Central, Mrs. B.F. Register, whose husband was a former mayor of Columbus. We performed our musicals in the auditorium at Jordan. It was neat because we had people participating from all the schools.

One summer musical was called "The Sweetest Girl In Town." It was so saccharin sweet that my wife can't believe we could do it with a straight face (I still have the book). But it was fun to do. I had the lead, and got to (blush) actually KISS the leading lady, which was rare indeed for those days. Her name was Nancy Entrekin, she went to Jordan, and she wound up, after doing drama at Auburn, actually on the stage in New York.

Nancy was an exception. The rest of us were not so serious about the craft. We just did it for fun.

We also did summer minstrel shows. They provided a great format for individual singers and dancers, but would, of course, be very much politically incorrect these days.

I have no idea who financed "Teen Tavern," or how long it continued after my stint in the early 50's. But it has fond memories for me.

Thanks to Bob Brown 65 (whose friend Sebastian, from an ATL radio station verified the "Derek" part).

Also, I discovered a great web-site www.oldiesmusic.com which has a Bulletin Board where you can post questions such as "Who's the Artist" to various songs---there's also a "yearbook" that you can sign, among other interesting things---great browsing!

Thanks to all of you for your patience in putting up with this for the past week. (Also---I won the 5 bucks!)

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!

From: DonaldBurns

Subject: [none]

Once there was a hillbilly boy who, after getting his G.E.D.(high school equivalency diploma), went to work for his father in the family business of Rust-Collecting. One day he met a hillbilly girl and they hit it off and started dating. They enjoyed each other's company, and both liked the same things, like Cow-Tipping and Beater-Car-Smashing. Eventually, they decided to marry.

After the ceremony, the boy was really looking forward to the wedding night, and to show how big a deal this marriage was, he took his new bride to an actual Motel where you had to pay money to stay. When they arrived, his wife went into the bathroom to change, while he was getting ready himself. She came out of the bathroom dressed in her sexiest burlap, and the boy grabbed her and tossed her on the bed. "Be gentle with me," she said, "I'm a virgin."

The boy immediately flew into a rage, got dressed, grabbed the girl and threw her into the back of his pickup truck. He screeched to a stop in front of her parents' house, threw her out, and burned rubber outta there. He drove to his Dad's house and told him the whole story through eyes filled with tears. His Dad comforted him and said,"You did the right thing, son---don't feel bad. A VIRGIN??!! Well, if she wasn't good enough for HER family, she sure ain't good enough for OURS!!!"

Comfort Inn - 1363 Klondike Rd. - south of I-20. 760-0300 Holiday Inn - Dogwood Dr. - north of I-20 483-3220

George '72, that's a great idea (you're a whiz) about using MapQuest to print out directions. I'll still post directions soon, but those using MapQuest can type in 1175 Azalea Circle, 30208 . If you zoom out one time, you'll see you turn onto Vineyard Dr. from GA 20 South to reach us.

And yes George, the pool hustler awaits you too.

BTW, perhaps if we signed off including our personal e-mail address, it would be easier to reply directly to that person without clogging up the discussion list. I know I was guilty of replying to Sunshine's message without looking to see where it was going. Sorry you guys had to read about the car and Bobby Combs connection when it wasn't germane.

For those of you who find your e-mail box too full for comfort, I highly recommend that you unsubscribe from the Lions-l and subscribe to the Lions-l-digest. I get one (HUGE) summary every morning instead of lots of little notes. Answering the mail works exactly the same.

Another alternative is logging on to the @BAKER page and looking at the edited sumamries for each month. I don't edit for content, just delete the quoted materials and any address that others might use to send unwanted advertisements, aka SPAM. I'm 2 months behind right now 'cuz we have been rather prolific over the past couple of months. Once you open an @BAKER page or item. you can use your browser to save it and then read it off-line.

Anyway - thought this might be helpful.

Okay. You guys and girls have suddenly become too timid! Those who do not wish to be greeted by four godzillion e-mail messages have already "un-subscribed". Those in the know elect the digest (refer to an earlier posting). If we are discreet and post messages to individuals when appropriate and broadcast to all when necessary, there should be no reason why this system can't continue... Merely observe the "to" and "from" indications at the top of each posting to ascertain if the message was posted to @Baker or to your personal e-mail address....

OK, boys and girls... the magic only works if you get the incantation right.

To bail out, send *only* the one word "unsubscribe" without the quotes. Don't send anything else. Don't quote this message. Don't say please. Don't chat. You're talking to a robot... if you're polite, you'll confuse the poor thing.

Send your message *only* to Lions-L-Request@Baker.HS.org ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Sending it to the list doesn't work... it only annoys the people who are enjoying this. Sending it to me doesn't work because I don't have time to go and unsubscribe you manually. Sending it to Webmaster doesn't work because that's me and I *still* don't have time.

If I sound frustrated, it's because I am. The "welcome" message you got when you signed up told you how to get back off the list.

*Please* don't send requests to me. I don't even have the time to do the stuff I volunteered to do... note that there's no "What's New?" this week. I *surely* don't have time to do the stuff you can do faster and easier by yourselves.

Do NOT send messages to Lions-L@Baker.HS.org when they start off like "Dear Jim" or "Dear Tom". These are individualized messages that should be sent just to that person, the rest of us really do not want to see that "clutter" on our e-mail. I too am considering unsubscribing just because of all the clutter that should be sent to an individual's e-mail address rather than the entire mailing list. Let's use some common sense here. Hi guys and gals,

The Baker connections continue. While walking out to our mailbox yesterday, I was stopped by a lady looking for directions to a neighbor. I recognized her from when she came to our office with her late husband a few years ago. It was Mrs. Yearty!!

Do y'all remember the Yearty boys? Jerry ('66 or '67) went with Barbara Etheridge in h.s. (she later married Freddie Hand ('66 or '67?).

Jerry is in Seattle WA - so Lynn Wood DeLaMare, you may want to let him know via phone about this site. His mom says he has a computer and e-mail.

Didn't know the other boys - but if anyone wants info, I can call their mom for you.

Phil Reynolds ('68) and I had a long phone conversation the other day. Were your ears burning? He's another one who went to Bennings Hills Elem. and we go back to 4th grade. His brother married Pauline Durden ('69 or '70?)

Regards to all - have you marked your calendar for June 28th, 7:30 - Conyers, GA? Our 10 year old wants to go to Furman's soccer camp beginning on Sun, June 29. Think we'll feel up to driving to Greenville, SC after our gathering? Sure we will ;-)

Lynn, I got your message and yeah, Christopher would love to drive the new car on June 29th! My neighbor's child is going too, so his mom may be doing the driving for us. I have a feeling it will be a late Sat. night, don't you?

Everybody - I will contact Mrs. Yearty tomorrow or Monday and post the info she tells me about her guys.

I drove by Baker while we were Columbus the other day. Seeing the newer windows put in when the A/C was added reminded me how hot some of those classrooms could get about this time of year. All those old windows would be wide open so we could catch whatever breeze there was. I remember Mrs. Guiot's Spanish classroom facing the afternoon sun - muy caliente! And to top it off, we couldn't wear shorts!!! How did we stand it?

The track and field area looks pretty much the same. Remember the Sadie Hawkins Day activities there - the greased poles, etc.? I do believe I still have my "marrying licenses" from those dances, but I won't tell whose names are on them ;-) Some of you actually ended up marrying your same Sadie Hawkins dates - amazing!

Prom season is upon us parents of high schoolers and I was remembering our BHS proms. Where besides the Auditorium were past proms held? What great memories do y'all have for the rest of us? We also had some kind of dance at the Martinique on 4th Ave during Senior year '68 - was that a graduation dance? Just can't remember. I do remember my date (won't say who) going to roll some teachers' houses after that dance. One teacher (a certain Mr. L.) even thanked those guys for helping add to his t.p. supply as he gathered it all up in morning. Phil Reynolds '68 - was Pauline Durden's mom the beautician mentioned previously? I don't know.

DAV - my mom said she saw you on TV in Columbus this week. She asked me if I knew of you here in Atlanta. Told her heck yes and that you were coming to the Baker gathering. She couldn't believe how "connected" we are becoming.

Take care. Tell us those stories of your Baker days. It's a hoot to hear them.

Three clergymen and their wives were on a picnic and struck by lightning. They were greeted by St. Peter and, assuming full well that they would be admitted with no trouble, they waited eagerly to get in.

St. Peter said, "Not so fast. We don't let just *anyone* in here."

"But we were ministers," they explained.

"Nevertheless, we do background checks on everyone."

St. Peter took out a huge ledger.

The Congregational minister was first. Peter opened the ledger, thumbed through it, and found the minister's records. "You did pretty well," he said. "But you were a bit too fond of money. Why, you even married a woman named Penny. Sorry, that's not good enough, and we can't let you in." The minister and his wife slunk away in disgrace.

It was the Episcopal priest's turn. "Hmm," said Peter. "You didn't lead a bad life." The priest preened. "However," St. Peter continued, "you were a little too fond of drink. In fact, I even see your wife's name is Sherry. Sorry -- you can't come in." The priest and his wife exited dejectedly."

As St. Peter thumbed through the ledger, the Methodist minister grabbed his wife's arm. "Come on, Fanny, we don't stand a chance."

A wife and her husband were having a dinner party for all the major status figures in Rome, Italy. The wife was very excited about this and wanted everything to be perfect. At the very last minute, she realized that she didn't have any snails for this dinner party, so she asked her husband to run down to the beach with the bucket she was handing him to gather some snails.

Very grudgingly he agreed. He took the bucket, walked out the door, down the steps, and out to the beach. As he was collecting the snails, he noticed a beautiful woman strolling alongside the water just a little further down the beach. He kept thinking to himself "Wouldn't it be great if she would even just come down and talk to me." He went back to gathering the snails. All of a sudden he looked up, and the beautiful woman was standing right over him.

They got to talking, and she invited him back to her place. They were at her apartment a ways down the beach, and they started messing around. It got so hot and heavy, that he was exhausted afterwards and passed out there.

At seven o'clock the next morning he woke up and exclaimed, "Oh no!!! My wife's dinner party!!!" He gathered all his clothes, put them on real fast, grabbed his bucket, and ran out the door. He ran down the beach all the way to his apartment.

He ran up the stairs of his apartment. He was in such a hurry that when he got to the top of the stairs, he dropped the bucket of snails. There were snails all down the stairs. The door opened just then, with a very angry wife standing in the door way wondering where he's been all this time. He looked at the snails all down the steps, then he looked at her, then back at the snails and said:

"Come on guys, we're almost there!"

Lynn Wood DeLaMare '65 has agreed to run Lions-Roar, an announcement- only mailing list for Baker "stuff."

The main purpose is to make sure that people who aren't interested in the "chatter" here on Lions-L can still get important news about events connected with Baker. I'm note sure how we'll get them to subscribe, since they're already bailed from here. (If you know anyone like that, you should send them a copy of this message.)

Everyone here should join Lions-Roar, too. There may be some announcements sent to Lions-Roar which don't reach us here. To join up, send the single word "subscribe" (without the quotes) to Lions-Roar-Request@Baker.HS.org

I'm sure there won't be a bunch of chatter on Lions-Roar because only Lynn can post messages to it. <grin> If you know of an event of interest to people who attended or taught at Baker, send your news to Lynn at Owner-Lions-Roar@Baker.HS.org

Dear Fellow Lions,

As Bob Brown recently e-mailed you, we now have an announcement/events format aptly titled Lions-Roar. To subscribe, send the single word... subscribe ...to Lions-Roar-Request@Baker.HS.org. I'd be glad to entertain chatty details about events, etc., but please address them to me, not in your "subscribe" request. The subscribe request goes to a robot, who won't appreciate your jokes.

We hope this will keep everyone up-to-date, including those who find it unbearable to keep up with 80 messages about favorite restaurants etc. (Some of us have to live vicariously.) I take it this forum will evolve, and you will define whether it should include birth announcements, and the like, or restrict it to upcoming Lion "events" (like Pam's bash on 6/28). Please give me your feedback.

Hoping to hear from you soon -

Lynn (Wood) DeLaMare '65, Seattle, WA
