Jeanne Penny (Sewell), Class of '65

Jeannie's fondest memories of growing up are neighborhood, Eastway Elementary, and Hillcrest Baptist youth-group get-togethers, and especially Baker High days. Special Baker memories include studying in the cafeteria before school, sock hops, working on school plays, choir, and ROTC.

Jeannie was widowed in '90, but remarried to Wayne Sewell in '97 and now lives on Lake Sinclair just outside of Milledgeville, GA. Wayne works for Security Bank in Macon.  Her son, Richie, graduated from Georgia Tech in '95 with a degree in Civil Engineering and finished his Master's degree in forensic engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana in 2005. Richie and his wife live outside of Chicago with their son, Evan.  Evan will be 2 years old in November, 2005.  

Jeannie's parents still live off of Steam Mill Road in Columbus. Her brother, Jim (Baker '68) is in Austin, TX.  Her sister, Robin Stutts (Kendrick '74), just moved back to Columbus and is teaching kindergarten at St. Anne's Catholic school. 

She graduated from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in '69, received her BSN from MCG in '74, MSN from University of Maryland in '83 and a Post-Masters degree in Nursing Informatics from Duke University in 1997. After working 22 years in hospitals, a doctor's office, home health and teaching part-time, she began teaching full-time in the Nursing Program at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, GA.

She has presented at state, national and international conferences on subjects varying from clinical nursing to healthcare informatics. She has published several articles on clinical nursing. She is currently the associate editor for the Health Sciences Editorial Board for MERLOT (Multimedia Education Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) http://www.merlot.org
