Skip Joiner, Class of '62

About-Baker: I played basketball for Bubba until the eleventh grade. I ran track for Sam Roberts for four years. In my junior year I was on a record setting relay team with Frank Holbrook, Tommy McCluskey, and Chuck Howard. When the announcement was made at the Montgomery Relays that the BHS mile relay had set a new record, I sort of floated to the officials table to get my medal. I don't think my feet hit ground for several days. We went on to set many records over the next two years, but the first was something I will always remember.

After-Baker: I served four years in the military (USAF)before returning to Columbus to finish my college education. I taught school thirteen years before moving into school administration. I left Columbus in 2001 and moved to Atlanta to accept a position with the Georgia Department of Education. I retired in 2004. I have a daughter, Staci, two beautiful granddaughters, Keely (9) nad Peyton (8), and a wonderful wife,(Fran), and a fine stepson (Craig). I still enjoy running and I occasionally enter road races. Fran and I enjoy traveling and try to make it somewhere new each summer.
